The mother, father and baby are made from corn husk and then dressed in traditional outfits of calico, lace, leather and turkey feathers. Glass beads add more decoration to each outfit. These are traditional faceless corn husk dolls. As the legend of the corn husk doll says "Iroquois do not put faces on their corn husk dolls as a reminder that vanity can be an obstacle that prevents us from accomplishing our appointed tasks. The people also cautioned against placing too much emphasis on superficialities." The male figure is 13 inches tall and the female figure is 11 1/2 inches. They are mounted on a one inch high wood base. Important details include a miniature hand made rattle, and silver conches at the neck of each adult figure. The man is wearing a traditional head piece called a Gustowe, and the woman is wearing a crown. Leggings and moccasins are made from buckskin. The artist signed at the bottom: Beverly Doxtater, Mohawk, turtle clan, 2007.
