Three Sisters

By: Mark Fischer

Mark Fischer, an Oneida tribal member, has named his copper sculptures Turtle Clan Art. They are inspired by ancient Woodland petroglyphs and pictographs. The THREE SISTERS sculpture is decorated with deer hide and antique trade beads. The THREE SISTERS are known in Oneida stories as the "sustainers of life." Oneida people consider corn, beans, and squash to be special gifts from the creator. According to the artist, these three sisters would never be apart from one another, and should be planted together and celebrated together. Pole beans were interplanted with squash and corn, using the strength of the sturdy corn stalks to support the twining beans and the shade of the spreading squash vines to trap moisture for the growing crop. THIS SCULPTURE WON FIRST PLACE IN THE 1ST ANNUAL BEAR PAW ART SHOW, 2006.

Price: $400.00
